In defense of their World Series title, the 1947 St. Louis Cardinals boasted their usual heroic cast as big league rosters were again at full strength. The main attraction, of course, Stan Musial performed to rave reviews, as always, warranting MVP consideration for the fifth of sixteen straight seasons. With nineteen homers, 95 RBI and a .312 average to his credit, “Stan the Man” helped keep the Redbirds in contentiondespite their uncharacteristically slow start.
