About the Team
The Davenports Brown Stockings joined the Northwestern League in 1879. Later renamed the Blue Sox, the teams’ most successful years were under manager Cletus “Smoke” Dixon from 1932-36, winning two league championships and losing twice in the finals. Noteable players from the Blue Sox’ era were brothers Jesse and Virgin Barnes and Nick Etten. The Davenport Blue Sox (River Bandits) re-emerged on August 9, 2022 when they took the field against the Cedar Rapids Bunnies (Kernels) in a commemorativeevent held in Dyersville, Iowa.
