An absolutely stunning work of wall art for lovers of America’s legendary Gateway to the West! Take a step back in time to a golden age in the history of St. Louis, the 1890s, when the thriving metropolis was a major part of America’s rapidly-encroaching modern industrial age, and rapid expansion towards the Pacific. This is a breathtaking reproduction of an 1896 commercial wall print that was originally drawn by local illustrator Fred Graf and published by local printer to highlight the city. The streetscape of the era is brought to life from a bird’s-eye perspective, sketched in outline while hovering above in a balloon basket, then completed in studio with endless detail and color. With the city sprawling out in front of you from the perspective of high above the East bank of the Mississippi River, you get all the geographical and man-made landmarks of the era. You’ll be amazed at both the similarities and differences between today’s St. Louis, and the city in 1896! Surrounding the main panorama are rare photographs of the exterior of some 14 classic buildings of downtown St. Louis, extraordinary examples of the architecture of the era – and some of these buildings are still standing today! Also, original photographs of the Columbus and Humboldt statues at Tower Grove Park, as well as illustrations of four key landmarks (Holland Building, City Hall, Union Station and Victoria Building). From the steamboats on the river, to the railway lines, to the parks, the roads, the warehouses, the tenements, the bridges, and more, it’s all here – the booming city that was getting set to take the international stage just eight years later with the World’s Fair and Olympics in 1904. Noted for their sharp detail and unique 19th century style, these aerial maps of the era are absolutely beautiful, bringing both class and history to your wall. Complete with original-font titling and labels, you won’t believe how amazing this looks! A rare vintage classic for your wall, printed on premium-quality stock with vivid giclee inks published in exclusive short-runs for enhanced desirability. Bring old-school St. Louis alive again! Perfect for home, office, classroom, bar, restaurant, or public facility.
